Washington Quarter Value Chart
The Washington Quarter debuted in 1932 as a circulating commemorative for the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth, designed by John Flanagan, and was struck in 90% silver through 1964. The two primary key dates are the low-mintage first-year 1932-D (436,800) and 1932-S (408,000); the 1936-D is a recognized semi-key and condition rarity; and the 1955 Doubled Die Obverse is the most famous variety. The series also includes the 1975-1976 dual-dated Bicentennial drummer-boy reverse (designed by Jack Ahr). Almost all 1976 and 1976-D quarters are copper-nickel clad and worth only face value. The 1976-S was struck in three distinct forms: a copper-nickel clad proof, a 40% silver proof, and a 40% silver uncirculated coin, the last two sold to the public in special San Francisco silver sets. Note: no 1932-era quarters were struck in 1933, and there is no 1949-S, 1956-S, 1957-S, 1958-S, or 1959-S in this circulating series.
